Land Rover Explore Android Smartphone With Battery, Adventure Packs Launched: Price, Specifications

The Land Rover car brand, owned by Jaguar Land Rover and associated with top-end SUVs, has been licenced by British company Bullitt Mobile to launch the Land Rover Explore smartphone. The smartphone was first unveiled at the industry trade show ISPO, but specifications of the handset have just been revealed by the company ahead of MWC 2018.

The Land Rover Explore appears to be a rugged smartphone and it comes with a modular, 'Pack' system similar to Moto Mods that's aimed at users who love travelling. Meanwhile, the smartphone with an Adventure Pack has been priced at GBP 599 and will be revealed at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 26. To recall, Bullitt Mobile is also the company that licenses the Cat construction brand for rugged, professional-centric smartphones.

The dual-SIM smartphone sports a 5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It runs Android Nougat, but users can expect an upgrade to Android Oreo as well. The Explore is powered by a 2.6GHz deca-core MediaTek X27 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM. In terms of optics, the smartphone has a 16-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel camera at the front. The camera is capable of 4x digital zoom.

The Land Rover Explore comes with 64GB of inbuilt storage, expandable via microSD card. The smartphone packs a 4000mAh battery and features IP68 water and dust resistance. It has an outdoor dashboard to access weather information, sensor data, and on-device tools such as a compass, SOS light, and more.

"This is the smartphone we'd all like to own - a perfect combination of design and functionality that embodies the Land Rover DNA and enables customers to be outdoors for longer, with the confidence to go further," said Joe Sinclair, Director of Branded Goods at Land Rover, in a statement.

When it comes to the add-ons, the first one is an Adventure Pack which adds a 3600mAh additional battery and enhances GPS signal with a 25x25mm ceramic patch GPS antenna. Next, is a Bike Pack that comes with a bike mount and case for both stem and handlebar. Finally, there is a Battery Pack that adds an additional 4370mAh of battery capacity to the smartphone.
