Until now, the news dealing with Apple's next-generation iPhone models was based purely on rumours and speculation, from 240fps camera support and virtual home button to Force Touch displays and 2GB of RAM. Now however, a batch of leaked images have hit the Web purported to be of the iPhone 6s' metal casing or chassis.

The images of the metal casing suggests the iPhone 6s will sport the same design profile as its predecessor. However, what is said to be different is the internal mounting structure. Reported by 9to5 Mac, the leaked images are said to come via a 'proven' source close to Apple's supply chain. Images of the iPhone 6s Plus' casing were not leaked alongside, and that model may still sport design changes from its predecessor.

The images not only show an identical design as mentioned above, but it also sports the same Space Grey colour, same antenna positions, and the same camera holes on top corner. The source also says that the difference in the thickness and width on the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 model negligible - but then again, the rumoured 0.15mm difference in length and 0.2mm in thickness would not be very noticeable by the naked eye. 9to5Mac does clarify since this is an early look at the handset's design, there is a chance Apple may tweak the design of the final version.

The purported iPhone 6s metal casing shows changes in the mounting points for a new new logic board that 9to5Mac claims are in line with other details received about the logic board.

The iPhone 6s metal casing also features the same holes for rear camera, microphones, and flash as the previous model, contradicting a recent report. However, the rumoured new camera setup could be reserved for the larger iPhone 6s Plus. Also seen on the purported iPhone 6s casing are the antenna lines that were expected to be done away with based on a recent patent being granted to Apple for a metallic material.

Also, the speaker holes, microphone, headphone and the lightning charger port stay exactly the same like the current iPhone models, in the leaked image. All in all, if the leaked images are to be believed, the smaller iPhone 6s model will be very similar in design to its predecessor - something that's not to surprising considering this is an incremental 'S' upgrade between major product refreshes. Changes to the iPhone 6s Plus, as mentioned before, may be more elaborate however.
