Highlights
  • OnePlus 2 network drop issue fixed with this update
  • The update bumps OxygenOS version up to 3.5.6
  • Major complaints were from Airtel and Jio users in India

Last week, OnePlus rolled out the OxygenOS 3.5.5 update based on Marshmallow last week to all OnePlus 2 users, but pulled it back after many users started complaining of network issues. Users said that their network was dropping continually, and claimed that installing the update introduced the issue. OnePlus has now apparently fixed the issue, and has begun rolling the patch out with OxygenOS 3.5.6 update to all OnePlus 2 users.

OnePlus 2 users are now receiving the OxygenOS 3.5.6 update over-the-air (OTA). The company has said that it is an "incremental rollout", hence users will receive the update in phases over the next few days. This update claims to fix the 'persistent network drops' that users complained about.

Major chunk of complaints were from owners on Airtel or Reliance Jio networks in India. The issue only cropped up once the owner started using mobile data, but on Wi-Fi the device performed normally. We recommend that you update your device through a strong Wi-Fi connection and have sufficient battery on your smartphone.

The company has also started rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat update for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users worldwide. The Android 7.0 Nougat-based OxygenOS 4.0 update is being pushed out over-the-air and will reach all users over the coming days. The company is again calling it an "incremental rollout", implying that it will roll out in batches, and only a few users will receive it on the first day, while others should receive it over the course of the next few days. Alongside, OnePlus has also announced the release of Open Beta 1 for OnePlus 3T users.
