Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016), Galaxy J7 (2016) to Launch in India Today

Samsung India on Monday will be launching its 2016 editions of the Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 smartphones in the country. The company sent out media invites over the weekend with a tagline that said, "Get ready to witness the next."

Samsung had introduced the Galaxy J5 (2016) and the Galaxy J7 (2016) in China earlier this year. The smartphones last week went on sale in South Korea. The Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) was priced at KRW 290,000 (approximately Rs. 17,000), while the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) was priced at KRW 363,000 (approximately Rs. 21,000). We can expect the India pricing of the new J-series smartphone to be priced around the same.

Both the new Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 smartphones feature metal frames. The new J-series smartphones are successors to the Samsung Galaxy J5 and the Galaxy J7, which were unveiled in July last year.

Both the smartphones run Android 6.0 Marshmallow and come with 4G (LTE Cat. 4) support. They sport a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/1.9 aperture and LED flash while both also feature 5-megapixel front-facing cameras that also comes with f/1.9 aperture.

Other specifications of the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) include a 5.2-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) Super Amoled display and is powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz clubbed with 2GB of RAM. There is 16GB of storage and the handset supports expandable storage support via microSD card (up to 128GB). The Galaxy J5 (2016) is backed by a 3100mAh battery. It measures 145.8x72.3x8.1mm and weigh 158 grams.

Coming to the Galaxy J7 (2016), the smartphone features a 5.5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) Super Amoled display and is powered by an octa-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz. It comes with 2GB of RAM and packs 16GB of storage which is further expandable via microSD card (up to 128GB). The handset is backed by a 3300mAh battery. It measures 151.7x76x7.8mm and 169 grams. It's worth noting that the Galaxy J7 (2016) variant launched in South Korea came with slight difference in specifications. The Galaxy J7 (2016) China variant featured a full-HD display and also came with 3GB of RAM. We will have to wait till Samsung India confirms the innards of the Galaxy J7 (2016) for the Indian market.
