Microsoft is planning Google Glass-like Internet-connected glasses, if a note by analyst Brian White of Topeka Capital Markets, is to be believed.

White's note to investors did not offer any specific information about Microsoft's said project but he does expect that the Redmond giant will make the glasses available in the first half of 2014. He said that Google is likely to ship Google Glass in late 2013.

"It appears to us that Google has made significant breakthroughs around software applications as it relates to this new product," said White. "As such, we believe this initiative will kick off a major push into the field of wearable electronics and therefore will be closely scrutinised."

Microsoft is not the first company believed to be working on a wearable tech device. A few days back there was a report that quoted "sources familiar to the matter" to inform that Korean electronics giant LG was working on a smart watch to rival rumoured projects from Apple, Samsung, and Google, in addition to planning a device similar to Google's Project Glass. Prior to that several reports had indicated that Apple, Samsung and Google were working on smart watches.

Just two days back White was in the news after he suggested in one of his research note that Apple's TV set, the "iTV" will go on sale late this year, for $1,500 to $2,500. He said that the TV will be 60 inches on the diagonal, but could also come in 50- and 55-inch versions, and that Apple will also release a small "iRing" that fits on the viewer's finger, allowing the user to control the screen by pointing. White had made the report on the basis of gleanings from visits with unnamed Chinese and Taiwanese companies that supply Apple with components.
