Venue 8 7000 Series Tablet With Intel RealSense Technology is Coming to India

We first saw it at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) last year, again at CES in January, and it looks like we will be seeing it again very soon, when it launches in India. We are talking about the Dell Venue 8 7000 Series Android tablet, which, at 6mm is thinner than the iPad Air 2 and the iPad mini 3, and has some cool tricks up its sleeves thanks to Intel's RealSense technology.

The Venue 8 7000 Series tablet comes with an 8.4-inch 2560x1600 OLED infinity display but the real story - pun intended - are the cameras. It's rare for the cameras to be the highlight of a tablet, but Dell, with some help from Intel, has managed exactly that.

The tablet comes with Intel's RealSense camera technology, at the heart of which lies an 8-megapixel rear sensor supplemented by two 720p cameras for depth-sensing. This means you click pictures as normal, but thanks to the extra information captured by the secondary cameras, matter where you focus your lens when you snap a picture, you can re-focus it afterward to highlight - or defocus - any section of the image. You can of course do other things like filter shades from black and white to colour, or adjust contrast and brightness, all by tapping the screen and sliding a few controls.

That may sound impressive, but hardly revolutionary you might say - wait till you hear about the real world applications of this technology.

If you point the RealSense camera towards objects like your furniture and click a picture, you can find out the dimensions (length, width, height) of the object thanks to a special software that Dell and Intel designed. So next time you have to move furniture and can't find the measuring tape, simply use your tablet.

The 7000 Series tablet of course is backed by an Intel Atom Processor Z3580 (up to 2.3GHz quad-core) alongside Intel HD Graphics (Imagination PowerVR G6430) and 2GB RAM. Other specifications include 16GB internal storage (expandable), Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, 2-megapixel front camera, and Android 4.4 KitKat.
