Highlights
  • The service was first launched in Chennai earlier this year
  • It has since made its way to Bengaluru
  • Apart from new modem charges, there is no increase in monthly plans

Following its launch in Chennai and Bengaluru, Airtel's V-Fiber 'superfast broadband' service is now coming to Mumbai, the company announced on Wednesday. To recall, Airtel had launched the service first in Chennai, and had then said the service would be rolled out to Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru over the coming weeks. While it hasn't made its way to Delhi-NCR officially yet, several users in the region are reporting the ability to upgrade.

The highlight of Airtel's V-Fiber service is the promise of speeds up to 100Mbps on regular broadband lines. Existing broadband users will not pay any additional charges on their monthly rental plans for the service, however, will need to spend extra on a compatible modem.

Airtel has yet to provide precise pricing details for the new V-Fiber compatible modems, however, it adds that the modem charges will be completely refunded if the customer is not satisfied with the service in the first month. Both existing and new users can register for V-Fiber services via the company's dedicated site. V-Fiber plans for new users start from Rs. 899, and the company notes new subscribers can avail a 3-month unlimited offer.

As before, the company notes the process of upgrading to the V-Fiber network will not require it to dig up roads or re-wire, instead, it will boost the last mile copper connectivity by using 'noise elimination technology' it is referring to as Vectorization. It adds that local exchanges have been upgraded to handle faster fibre speeds. The V-Fiber service will eventually be rolled out to all cities that have Airtel's broadband service.
