Amending regulations, TRAI on Tuesday revised port changes by keeping the upper limit at Rs 4,000 per port in a year for mobile phone network and Rs 10,000 per port in a year for fixed line networks.

Earlier, telecom operators had to pay up to Rs 39,000 per port annually. Port is an essential part for the establishment of the interconnection between two networks.

These charges add up to call rates as port charges are paid by the operator seeking to connect his network for smooth transfer of calls made by subscribers on other telecom networks.
