Sood said that the company is looking at expanding services in other parts of the country but the final decision will depend on spectrum price and market scenario.

"As of now, we have plans for expansion within Bihar where we will increase mobile sites by 20 percent to improve outdoor coverage," Sood added.

Uninor won spectrum in Assam in February 2014 but is yet to launch services as approval for its wireless frequencies for back-end network is awaited from Department of Telecom.

"We expect regulatory approval to come for it by the end of this year after which we will launch Assam operations," Sood said. The Indian arm of Norwegian telecom firm Telenor is reported to have about 40 million mobile customers in the country of which 26 percent of are active Internet users.

Huawei Vice President Baker Zhou said the company has partnership with Telenor across various countries but the deal signed on Wednesday is of a different kind.

"Huawei will bring its end-to-end network backbone elements to the project. This includes environment-friendly green solutions that would lower power consumption by almost 30 percent and increase spectral efficiency," Zhou said.

Uninor expects to reduce carbon emission from its network in India by 30 percent on completion of the project.
