Those opting for a soundbar often end up compromising on surround sound. This year at CES, Philips has come up with a unique solution. The company has launched the "world's first sound bar with detachable speakers," in the form of the Fidelio HTL9100 soundbar.

The 46-inch long Philips Fidelio HTL9100 has two battery-powered detachable wireless speakers that can be placed at the back to offer you a hassle-free 5.1 surround sound experience. Once detached, the centre unit retains the front, left and right channels.

Philips claims 10-hours of battery life for the detachable speakers after which they can be reattached to the sound bar for charging automatically.

The unit comes with Bluetooth integration, which means you can wirelessly steam audio from most smartphones and tablets. It also has an additional HDMI port for multi media connectivity and an orientation sensor that automatically adjusts sound depending on whether it's wall-mounted or placed on a shelf.

The unit will set you back $799 when it lands in stores this May. You can get the Fidelio HTL9100 soundbar with or without a separate subwoofer, which is also wireless, though obviously it (like the main unit) needs a power cord. The pricing without the subwoofer (HTL7100) costs $599.

We can't wait for this to hit Indian shores!
