Asus on Monday unveiled a fitness-focused smartwatch dubbed the Asus VivoWatch, ahead of a full unveil sometime during the Milan Design Week.

While Asus didn't disclose pricing, specifications or the launch date, it only revealed (via Engadget) that the Asus VivoWatch will be a fitness-centric wearable that has a tough stainless steel body, an IP67 certification rating against dust and water, heart-rate monitoring and sleep tracking.

As seen from the Asus VivoWatch image, it seems that the wearable has a black and white display mode to save the power with a green LED light strip below. Other than that, there's nothing much known about the VivoWatch as yet, but company is likely to reveal more at the Milan Fashion Week.

To remind you, Asus Chairman Jonney Shih has been teasing the device for its long lasting battery, which reportedly can manage up to 10 days on a single charge. Also, the Asus VivoWatch seen in the image does not appear to be based on Google's Android Wear OS.

Notably, Asus has been looking to ditch Google's Android Wear OS for ZenWatches, and is working on a more power-efficient OS. During a conference in February, CEO Jerry Shen told Asus investors that the company is working on a mobile operating system for future smartwatches that will help company achieve longer battery life.

This is a long-term plan though and the company will continue to use Android Wear in the meanwhile in future devices, with the rumoured ZenWatch 2 most likely to be one of those wearables.

"The major concern is about saving power," Shen was reported as saying. "We will continue to work with Google on Android Wear, and we will have another [ZenWatch] that is not based on Android Wear and features a longer battery life."
