Our weekly column looks at the favourite apps and gadgets that people can't live without. This week, Jagdish Mahapatra, MD India and Saarc for McAfee, part of Intel Security, spoke to us about his favourite tech-toys. Mahapatra, who is a self-confessed travel, fitness, and Apple addict, had this to say about his setup:

Describe your technology setup - what computer/ phone/ tablet/ camera/ gaming console/ other gadgets do you use?
I have a complete Apple ecosystem in my setup. I use a MacBook, iPhone 5, iPad Air, Airport, [and] Apple TV, which enables anything anywhere. We also have a Nintendo Wii console in the house for gaming, as it is very kid-friendly.

What are three apps (mobile/ tablet or PC/ Mac) you couldn't live without?
Google Maps is truly the best friend and guide to help you reach anywhere with the most optimal route. I also rely on Truecaller, it helps me decide who I should not be taking to. Aside from that, I use WhatsApp - it is absolutely an extension of one's self and I need it to connect with my world.

What is one gadget (other than your phone) you never travel without?
My iPad.

What is your dream gadget/ technology setup?
I have this vision of a smart connected home where every device talks and understands each other. So if one's watching a food program on TV, you should be able to tell the refrigerator to fill in the ingredients of the recipe you're watching - and the fridge should be able to place an order online to be ready for when you want to cook. The other thing I really want to see is the ability of appliances to take reading from your body and suggest the right nutrition for you.

How has technology changed the way in which you work?
It has definitely helped in cutting down some avoidable travel time and office trips.
