Adobe unveils new version of Acrobat XI with PDF editing, priced at starting Rs. 19,001

Adobe has launched the next generation of Acrobat XI, the product suite that lets you create, edit and view PDFs. The service includes Acrobat XI Pro, Acrobat XI Standard and Adobe Reader XI

The company demonstrated the product at a press event in Bangalore that boasts complete PDF editing and export to Microsoft PowerPoint, along with touch-friendly capabilities on tablets and smartphones allowing users to add comments, fill in, save and sign forms.

The biggest addition in Acrobat XI comes in the form of a new tool for editing text and images. You can now edit PDF files, modify paragraphs, images and objects by simply clicking and dragging using the new, intuitive Edit Text and Images tool.

Adobe Reader on smartphones and tablets now lets you annotate and add comments as well as fill in, sign and save forms. PDF documents can be saved as PowerPoint, Word or Excel files. Further you can also reuse select parts of PDF files as Microsoft Office documents and Web pages eliminating the need to retype content.

Additional security features prevent PDF files created through Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel from being copied, edited or printed without user permission.

Acrobat XI also claims to support IT departments with seamless Microsoft Office and SharePoint integration, easy deployment, applications virtualisation and increased application security to help provide a low cost of ownership and sound return on investment.

Acrobat XI and Reader XI will be available as a centrally managed, touch-friendly app for iPads and Android-based tablets with new support for Microsoft App-V via Citrix XenApp.

With Acrobat XI, Adobe aims to address the productivity inefficiencies and cost of document-based challenges, that are highlighted in a recent global IDC study. A company of 1,000 spends an average of 3.5 hours a week compiling different files and formats into one specific format, 3.7 hours gathering and consolidating feedback and 3.4 hours consolidating data from forms. That adds up to an annual productivity cost of $15.9 million per year, leading to hiring an additional 213 people, the study says.

Speaking at the launch, Umang Bedi, Managing Director, South Asia, Adobe, said, "To help keep Indian businesses globally competitive, we see our customers focusing on boosting collaboration, extending infrastructure so employees can be just as productive on tablets and smartphones as they are on laptops, and investing to make their business secure in an increasingly digital and complex environment. Acrobat has been a trusted desktop solution for leading organisations across the country for many years, and the release of Acrobat XI will continue to help address productivity challenges and boost organizational efficiency."

The latest version of Acrobat XI is scheduled to ship within 30 days. They will be available through Adobe Authorised Resellers and the Adobe India Online Store shop, adobe.com/in.

Adobe Store price for Acrobat XI Standard is expected to be Rs. 19,001 while Acrobat XI Pro is expected to be priced at Rs. 28,502.

Users already using the service will be allowed to upgrade for a certain price. A free 30-day trial of Acrobat Pro will also be available upon product shipment. A Reader XI free download will be available at http://www.adobe.com/in/downloads once it is out.
