  • Amazon Prime Video app is not immediately available for download
  • The app may be in testing, or Amazon hasn't updated device compatibility
  • This is one of several recent redressal moves between rivals

It's been a rollercoaster ride of carrots and sticks, with the video streaming tug-of-war between Amazon, Apple, and Google recently gaining new dimensions. You could say the first real blow was thrown in 2015, when Amazon said it would ban sales of Apple TV and Google Chromecast streaming devices on its store. Amazon last week reversed that course of action however, and the week before that brought the Prime Video app to the Apple TV. And now, on Thursday, it has brought the Prime Video app to Android TV.

For now though, the Prime Video app on Google Play doesn't immediately appear to be available for download. At the time of writing, it wasn't compatible with any of the Android TVs we've tested or owned, had zero reviews, and only 10-50 installs. The app may just be in testing still, or more probably, the company hasn't updated the device compatibility list on Google Play. Let us know in the comments if the app appears as compatible on your Android TV, or region. The listing was first spotted by Android Police.

Google recently began pressuring Amazon by blocking and threatening to withdraw YouTube support for Amazon devices like the Fire TV family and the Echo Show. Earlier this year, Apple is thought to have struck a deal with Amazon to bring the Prime Video app to the Apple TV, perhaps in exchange for Amazon allowing sales of the Apple TV on its store. To note, is that this isn't the first time Amazon Prime Video has been available on an Android TV, with the Nvidia Shield TV amongst those where the app was preloaded on the TV firmware.

While things are certainly easing up for consumers with the recent moves, allowing them to use the video streaming option of their choice on a rival platform, there is still some way to go before the walls are razed down from the gardens. For example, Amazon has yet to bring Chromecast support to its Prime Video apps for Android and iOS, something Chromecast users the world over would rejoice to.
