Highlights
  • Bixby Voice was earlier slated for a spring release
  • Full functionality for Bixby will be coming by Q4 this year
  • Bixby Voice support has already been rolled out in South Korea

In April, when Samsung launched its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ flagship smartphones with its new Bixby digital assistant in the US, it surprisingly announced that the support for English voice commands will be added in spring for the country. Unfortunately, the South Korean company will now reportedly not be rolling out the support for the functionality till later this month in the US.

As per a Wall Street Journal report, Samsung will not be able to roll out the Bixby Voice feature till late June due to the difficulty the Bixby assistant has in comprehending English syntax and grammar, Engadget reports. Notably, the company has already rolled out the support for Bixby Voice commands in South Korea.

For now, Bixby only supports Korean language but comes with the option of a male or a female voice as per the user's preference. Upon activation, users can access Bixby Voice with a single tap of the Bixby button and two taps will take them to the Hello Bixby home page. There are several options including Voice Feedback, Feedback Style, Bixby voice wake-up, and Read aloud in high quality among others. There is also "Bixby Labs" to allow developers to test the integration of their apps with Bixby.

The apps that currently support Bixby voice commands include Gallery, Contacts, Phone, Settings, and stock Camera app among others. To recall, it was revealed shortly after launch that full functionality for Samsung Bixby would arrive by Q4 2017, as well as support for more languages including German.
