Amazon Prime Video has released the trailer for Laakhon Mein Ek season 2 — the anthology drama series created by comedian Biswa Kalyan Rath — which stars Shweta Tripathi (Haraamkhor) in the lead as Dr. Shreya Pathare, who is posted to the Maharashtrian village of Sitlapur to conduct a cataract camp. But she faces much resistance in raising awareness and finds that the government stock of medicines is being routed to the black market. Rath wrote the series with Abhishek Sengupta, who directed several episodes of Laakhon Mein Ek season 1, and lyricist Hussain Haidry (Mukkabaaz). Rath also stars in the new season, in a role different from the one he played in the first, along with Ishan Mishra (It's Not That Simple). The show is a production of Only Much Louder (OML).

Laakhon Mein Ek season 1 saw overwhelming love from audiences across the country," Rath said in a prepared statement. "It was a deeply personal story and found great resonance with viewers. With season 2, the attempt is again to tell the story from the perspective of an unlikely hero, while taking a deep, hard look at the state of health-care facilities in rural India. Laakhon Mein Ek season 2, features Dr. Shreya (Tripathi) in the lead, and follows her journey to do the right thing despite indomitable odds. Again, a relatable premise, a powerful yet authentic character, set in a world that we aren't very familiar with. It has been a labour of love and I hope audiences enjoy it.”

Rath has previously worked with Amazon on his hour-long stand-up comedy special, Biswa Mast Aadmi, and the first season of Laakhon Mein Ek in 2017, and then served as a judge and mentor on Comicstaan season 1 in 2018. Tripathi starred in Mirzapur season 1 last year.

“The first season of Laakhon Mein Ek was much loved by audiences across India and offered a nuanced yet relatable story," Vijay Subramaniam, content director and head in India for Amazon Prime Video said. "Building on the central theme of the show, ‘Laakhon Mein Ek', quite literally ‘one in a million', season 2 tells the story of Dr. Shreya, played by Shweta Tripathi, and documents one individual's courage, resilience, and herculean fight against a corrupt system to make a difference. Interestingly, courage has been intuitively linked to the male gender in our country.

“Laakhon Mein Ek season 2 questions this narrative and showcases Dr. Shreya as a fierce, fearless and most importantly courageous woman. After Four More Shots Please!, Homecoming, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, we continue to bring women centric stories, that question gender norms. We are certain that the audiences will enjoy the new season with this fresh narrative. We are also excited to strengthen our association with Biswa Kalyan Rath who has been a part of the Prime Video family since the beginning of our journey in India.”

Here's the official description for Laakhon Mein Ek season 2, via Prime Video:

"Laakhon Mein Ek is a series that showcases the extraordinary stories of ordinary people defying odds, fighting corrupt systems to become the change that is required in the system. In Laakhon Mein Ek season 2, viewers will get to see the story of Dr. Shreya, played by Shweta Tripathi, who has been posted in Sitlapur village to conduct a cataract camp. The villagers, however, are not the biggest believers in government healthcare as the supplies aren't separate from the politics, and the staff isn't the dream team one would desire. Dr. Shreya keeps fighting the system, and faces indomitable odds, but the question remains whether she will change the system or if the system will change her."
