Sci-fi military shooter Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is set to have its multiplayer beta this week. What this means is, you can experience what to expect when the game is out on November 4 - at least in terms of online play. Here’s everything you need to know the latest COD instalment.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare multiplayer beta start date and preload time
The Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare multiplayer beta takes place from 10:30pm IST on October 14 to 10:30pm IST October 17 on PS4 only. The preload for the first beta is from October 13, 11am PT (11:30pm IST). Missed out on it on the PS4 the first time or want to play it on the Xbox One? The second round of the beta starts at 10:30pm IST on October 21 and ends on 10:30pm IST on October 24.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare multiplayer beta platforms
Publisher Activision has explicitly stated that PC gamers will not be able to participate. An oddity considering how welcoming of the PC community last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was. Nonetheless, if you have to play it, you’re restricted to the PS4 and Xbox One.

How to play Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare multiplayer beta
In order to get access to it, you have to pre-order the game on either the PS4 or Xbox One. This will set you back by at least Rs. 3,999 on the PS4 and Rs. 4,300 on the Xbox One if you buy it digitally. And if you order it on disc, be prepared to pay Rs. 4,499. You should get a code to let you download it.

Here’s what you can do in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare multiplayer beta
Going with the futuristic motif, the game features combat rigs. They’re described by Activision as “combat systems, or suits, chosen and worn by the player that provide a customised suite of tactical options.” Essentially they’re classes akin to those seen in previous Call of Duty and Battlefield games. Three of six will be in the beta, namely Warfighter, Merc and Synaptic rigs each with their own unique abilities and play styles.

In addition to this, you can try out the new Mission Teams metagame, which allows you to sign up with a crew and earn bonuses. Three maps will be available. These are:
• Frontier, a circular small section of a giant space station.
• Frost, a medium sized research facility on Jupiter’s moon Europa with opportunity for vertical combat.
• Throwback, which resembles a 1950s main street USA locale with a large circular lane that has a centre square.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare multiplayer beta modes
As for game modes, the following will be playable in the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare multiplayer beta:
• Standard Team Deathmatch.
• Domination wherein you have to capture areas on a map while gunning down opponents.
• Kill Confirmed which is similar to Team Deathmatch except that you score for your team when you collect a dog tag dropped by an enemy upon death
• Defender which is a new mode wherein you must babysit a drone while fending off foes.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare multiplayer beta download size
Activision has announced it will be 19GB. A little more than the 15GB of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.

Will the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare multiplayer beta go free?
Although you will need to pre-order the game in order to play the beta, we won’t be surprised to see it be available for all during its second weekend or at the very least be extended. Reason being, it’s usually around this time that the developers working on it are confident of their ability to manage a large number of games stressing their servers. We’ve seen this in the past with betas for almost every game that required a pre-order including last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.
