Netflix has released a side-scrolling endless running game featuring popular characters from its original shows. There is no official name for the game, though the link reads 'Flix Arcade', while the page title reads as 'Netflix Infinite Runner'.
In the game, you can choose from the likes of drug-lord Pablo Escobar via Narcos, Marco Polo from his short-lived eponymous show, Orange Is the New Black’s Piper Chapman, and Mike Wheeler from Stranger Things.
Once you have chosen your preferred character, it’s quite simple beyond that. You use the spacebar – a double tap results in a higher jump – to jump over obstacles and collect power-ups, which keep on changing with different shows. For Escobar, the police are his big obstacle and drug pills serve as power-ups. Eggo waffles, Eleven’s favourite thing in Stranger Things, are naturally the power-up of choice for Wheeler, and Chapman has to dodge handcuffs thrown at her by prison guard “Pornstache” Mendez.
There are some interesting Easter eggs thrown in as well. If you’re playing from India, you can spot “सावधान” written in Hindi on the prison fence when you pick Chapman, which is a nice way of doing (unnecessary yet funny) localisation. Expect it to change depending on where you live. That’s not the case with all the characters though.
In slightly more important local news, the streaming service recently announced a long-term partnership with Indian film star Shah Rukh Khan’s production house, Red Chillies Entertainment. That means Netflix now has access to all the films under the Red Chillies banner, including the likes of Dear Zindagi, Happy New Year, Dilwale, and Om Shanti Om.
