Honor recently added two new smartphones to its roster, the Honor 5X (Review | Pictures) and the Holly 2 Plus, to counter aggressive moves by Lenovo and new entrants like Coolpad and LeEco. The Holly 2 Plus will replace the older Honor Holly (Review), which launched in 2014 and will compete with offerings such as the Coopad Note 3 (Review | Pictures) and Intex Cloud Flash (Review | Pictures), which are some of the better options in this price segment.
The Honor Holly 2 Plus features a metallic build and an all-day battery life, thanks to the 4000mAh battery under the hood. The 5-inch display produces decent colours although it lacks any form of scratch resistant coating. The quad-core MediaTek SoC is fairly capable and handles most tasks with ease. However, some basic features like USB OTG are missing. The 13-megapixel camera captures decent detail but the resulting picture is quite grainy. This is an issue for daylight and low-light shots. You do get fast charging and special power saving modes to extend the already good battery life even more. Overall, the Holly 2 Plus pales in comparison to the likes of the Coolpad Note 3 or even the Intex Cloud Flash, in terms of overall performance.
