Amazon.in has added three categories that should help the newly-launched store make inroads into the Indian market. The three new categories are Mobiles and Accessories, Cameras and Photography, and Portable Media Players.

With this announcement, there are now six categories of products on Amazon.in including Books, Movies and TV shows and the Kindle family of ebook readers, ebooks and Kindle Fire tablets. Amazon.in was launched in India on June 5 selling books, movies and TV shows, with the Kindle Paperwhite ebook reader and Kindle Fire HD range of tablets following soon after.

Commenting on the launch of the three new categories, Amit Agarwal, Vice President and Country Manager, Amazon India, said "Customers have been asking us to bring the Amazon experience to electronic products in India. We are very excited to open our marketplace to sellers in these popular categories and offer broad selection, low prices, great convenience, and reliable delivery to shoppers across India."

Amazon.in features a wide range of products from leading manufacturers being sold by prominent third-party retailers. Some orders are fulfilled by Amazon, though some may be fulfilled by the vendors themselves. Most items have multiple sellers, and consumers can check who will fulfil the order before buying. Fulfilment of an order constitutes shipping the products, keeping the customer informed about its progress, and processing returns, if any.

Over 150 electronic retailers including Croma, Vijay Sales, UniverCell, Saholic, and J.J. Mehta & Sons are using fulfilment by Amazon. These sellers list their products on Amazon.in and send them to Amazon's fulfilment centre located on the outskirts of Mumbai. Once an order is placed, Amazon packs and ships the order to the customer without the sellers having to do anything.

Items fulfilled by Amazon feature additional benefits to the customer including cash on delivery, delivery tracking to the doorstep, and free returns pickup. As a limited period launch promotion, customers will enjoy free delivery with no minimum order value on all orders fulfilled by Amazon.
