Ericsson, Sterlite Partner on Solutions for Digital India's Smart Cities Initiative

Equipment maker Ericsson on Tuesday revealed that it was partnering with Sterlite to implement solutions for smart sustainable cities as a part of the Digital India programme.

Under the agreement, the solutions will include communications (Wi-Fi networks and optical fibre deployment), public safety (video situational awareness solutions and emergency response), intelligent transport (traffic management and fleet management) and smart grid solutions (smart grid communications and smart metering).

Anand Agarwal, CEO, Sterlite Technologies, said: "Sterlite is working closely with the government to drive smart sustainable city initiatives and supports Digital India program. We acknowledge Ericsson's leadership in enabling the Networked Society across the world and we are collaborating with Ericsson to implement the programme."

Sterlite Technologies is an Indian manufacturer of optical fibres, telecommunication cables and power transmission conductors and exports optical fibre to overseas markets in China, Europe and South East Asia.

Commenting on the partnership, Chris Houghton, India head, Ericsson, said: "Ericsson is playing a crucial role in creation of the Networked Society and is also a driving force in changes that are currently taking place in the business landscape of many industries."

"Our partnership with Sterlite coupled with our globally proven competencies, experience of smart sustainable city deployments and cutting edge technological expertise will help attain the goals of Digital India," he added.
