Google's Gmail, Play Store suffer outage

Google's Gmail service was down on Wednesday afternoon IST, with users getting a 502 error. Google Play Store users were experiencing the same error as well.

Google's Apps Status Dashboard listed the service as disrupted, with details mentioning that the outage started around 2:24 PM IST on Wednesday.

We're experiencing an issue affecting less than 0.5% of the Gmail user base. The affected users are unable to access Gmail. We will provide an update by 5/8/13 2:24 PM detailing when we expect to resolve the problem. Please note that this resolution time is an estimate and may change.

However, users had been reporting the problem since morning, well before Google confirmed the problem. By late afternoon, barely minutes after officially acknowledging the problem, Google claimed to have fixed the problem, confirming users in India and Middle East had been impacted.

The problem with Gmail should be resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support. Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better.

The issue has affected a small subset of users residing in India and the Middle-East region. The nature of this issue was sporadic, users were experiencing 502 errors when accessing Gmail. The issue has started at 00:30:00 PDT and was confirmed as resolved at 01:15:00 PDT.
