The latest Android distribution data released by Google for different versions of the operating system shows that Android KitKat is steadily gaining, while Android Jelly Bean continues to dominate the market. This is in sync with the numbers from last month, where there was a marked market dominance of the Android v4.1 to v4.3 (Jelly Bean). It also showed that adoption of Android 4.4 KitKat was steadily rising.

According to the data released on the Android Developers' webpage, Android KitKat gained a total of 0.7 percent from last month's 1.8 percent to finish at 2.5 percent. Jelly Bean now has a total market share of 62 percent which is a rise of 1.3 percent from last month's 60.7 percent.

This is an expected rise, given that more and more of the non-Google mobile devices have been jumping onto the KitKat bandwagon. The data on the webpage reflects the usage of Android v2.2 and higher. Google releases distribution numbers based on the data collected from user devices that access the Google Play store.

Coming to numbers, Android 2.2 Froyo had a share of 1.2 percent, which is a 0.1 percent fall from 1.3 percent in January. Android v2.3.3 to v2.3.7 Gingerbread also saw a 1 percent fall from last month's 20 percent to 19 percent. Android 3.2 Honeycomb stayed steady at 0.1 percent, the same as January. Android v4.0.3 to v4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich had a 0.9 percent fall from 16.2 percent last month, to 15.2 percent this month. It is important to note that Gingerbread has been holding its own despite the other old versions showing a noticeably steady decline.

In addition, Google has also listed distribution numbers for the Open GL. Open GL 2.0 continued its domination but saw a slight fall from 92.3 percent to 91.1 percent. The Open GL version 1.0 stayed steady on a 0.1 percent market share. The gainer was Open Gl version 3.0 which rose from 7.6 percent to 8.8 percent, gaining the 1.2 percent v2.0 lost.
