Google has revealed updated Android OS version distribution numbers, with data collected from Google Play visitors during a seven-day period ending on February 2. The biggest change since the numbers from last month is that the latest version of Google's mobile operating system, Android 5.0 Lollipop, has finally shown up on the chart.

In January, Google had revealed that active devices running Android 5.0 Lollipop constituted less than 0.1 percent of the total Android devices visiting the Play store - keeping it off the chart completely. This month, that number has gone up appreciably to 1.6 percent.

On the other hand, Android 4.4 KitKat was found to be running on 39.7 percent of active Android devices, rising 0.6 percent from last month. Android Jelly Bean, ranging from Android 4.1 to Android 4.3, powers 44.5 percent of the devices, taking a 4.2 percent hit from last month. Specifically, Android 4.1.x is seen on 18.4 percent of active devices (down from 19.2 percent), Android 4.2.x on 19.8 percent (down from 20.3 percent), and Android 4.3 on on 6.3 percent (down from 6.5 percent).

Android 4.0.x or Ice Cream Sandwich in the latest report was found to be running on 6.4 percent of devices, dropping from 6.7 percent the previous month. Android Gingerbread (v2.3.3-2.3.7) on the other hand dropped to 7.4 percent from 7.8 percent, while Android 2.2 Froyo stayed the same at 0.4 percent.

Also detailed by Google was OpenGL version distribution across active devices, with OpenGL 2.0 dropping to 68.9 percent from 69.9 percent last month, and OpenGL version 3.0 rising to 31.1 percent from 30.1 percent.

Notably, Apple's iOS 8 within three months of its public release is powering the majority (60 percent) of active iOS devices. In contrast, Google's Android 4.4 KitKat version took 14 months to reach roughly 40 percent of the worldwide users.
