Apple released its numbers for the three months ending June 28 on Tuesday, reporting earnings of $7.7 billion, or $1.28 per share. That represents a 12 percent increase from income of $6.9 billion, or $1.07 per share, at the same time last year, the biggest earnings gain for Cupertino in nearly 2 years.

The rise in earnings is being attributed to strong performance in the Chinese market, but India wasn't too far behind in terms of growth, though not sheer volume.

Apple registered strong gains in India across all three major product lines, iPad, Mac computers, as well as iPhone.

Speaking on the earnings call, Luca Maestri, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Apple said iPad sales were up 45 percent in India.

"Turning to iPad, we sold 15.3 million units, compared to 14.6 million in the June quarter last year," said Maestri. "iPad sales grew overall in the developing markets with particularly strong year-over-year growth in the Middle-East, where iPad sales were up 64 percent, in China where they grew 51 percent, and in India, where they were up 45 percent."

Apple sold 4.4 million Macs in the quarter, compared to under 3.8 million a year ago, an increase of 18 percent year-over-year and a new record for the June quarter. Maestri said the MacBook Air was the star of the show.

"We achieved strong double digit Mac growth across many countries, including the U.S. Canada, Mexico, the UK, Germany, France, Australia, China, India and the Middle-East," Maestri added. "This growth is particularly impressive, given the contraction of the overall PC market."

Though, Apple did not reveal country specific numbers or growth patterns for India, CEO Tim Cook talked about the strong performance in Brazil, Russia, India, and China (BRIC).

"We sold over 35 million iPhones, setting a new third quarter record," said Cook. "We generated healthy growth in our entry priced, mid-tier and lead iPhone categories. I'm especially happy about our progress in the BRIC countries, where iPhone sales were up a very strong 55 percent year-over-year.
