  • The update also solves the Pixel reboot issue associated with YouTube
  • Certain Pixel devices running Android 8.0 Oreo were facing the issue

Just like every other month, Google has now released the monthly security update for the month of October as well. The over-the-air (OTA) rollout of October monthly security patch for Nexus and Pixel devices, which are supported by the search giant itself, has already been started and should show up soon on the devices. Further, the California-based company has also made the factory images and full OTA zip files for the update available for instant update.

While the notification will show up on the Pixel and Nexus devices automatically, Android 8.0 Oreo users can choose to manually trigger the update by heading to Settings > System > System update. Users on Android 7.1.1 Nougat can also head to system settings and find the option to check for system update. The update build number for the Pixel or Pixel XL handsets in Canada or Project Fi is OPR1.170623.027, while that for other units of the smartphones it is OPR3.170623.008.

The Pixel C has the update build number as OPR1.170623.027, while the Nexus 6P has will get the update with build number OPR5.170623.007. The update's build number for the Nexus 5X is OPR4.170623.009. The factory images and full OTA zip files can be downloaded from the company's official website.

While, eight issues have been resolved with the security patch that is dated 2017-10-01, six are said to be resolved with the one dated 2017-10-05, as pointed out in a report by 9To5Google. In its bulletin regarding the October update, Google said that due the two security patch levels provide "Android partners with the flexibility to more quickly fix a subset of vulnerabilities that are similar across all Android devices.

Interestingly, Google has also claimed that these monthly security patches will also resolve the reboot issues that were plaguing certain Pixel devices, as per a report by Android Police. To help you catch up quickly to the news, certain Pixel devices running Android 8.0 Oreo were reportedly rebooting upon launching the picture-in-picture mode from YouTube. Some other Pixel devices were said to be facing multiple reboots despite working normally for days, as per the report.

While the company representative has seemingly suggested that the latest update should solve the reboot issue associated with picture-in-picture mode, we still need to see if it solves the other issues as well.
