Google's Android event scheduled for October 29 in New York was cancelled over the weekend due to Hurricane Sandy. The Verge reports that the event was supposed to take place on a waterfront pier in the city, that is now an evacuation zone.

Google has not yet announced another date for the event. The news, however,  was confirmed by Google, which issued a statement that read:

We are cancelling our Monday morning event in New York due to Hurricane Sandy. We will let you know our plans as soon as we know more.

Other media reports are calling it the 'Frankenstorm' since it is expected to hit the U.S. coast around Halloween, that falls on October 31 this year.

At the event, Google was expected to unveil the next rumoured Nexus smartphone, so far known as the LG Nexus 4. A 10-inch tablet from Samsung, variants of the Nexus 7 and the latest Android OS v4.2 codenamed Key Lime Pie were also expected to make an appearance.

We've seen multiple rumours and leaks surrounding these devices over the past few weeks. Google first positively hinted at the devices making an appearance at the said event, which now seems to have been literally 'washed out'.

However, plans for Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 event set to take place in San Francisco on the same day seem to be on schedule. The software giant is expected to officially reveal details regarding pricing and availability of highly anticipated Windows 8 devices, including the Nokia Lumia 920, the HTC 8X and the Samsung ATIV S. A week ago, prices of the Lumia 920 and the HTC 8X were revealed online with retailer BestBuy.

The Lumia 920 was seen priced at $149.99 with the new activation and $599 for the unactivated model, while the 8GB version of the HTC 8X was being offered for $99.99 with new activation and $599.99 unactivated.
