Google's Been Unable to Meet Demand for Nexus 6: CFO Patrick Pichette

Google announced its earnings report on Thursday where it reported a slowdown in revenue up to 10 percent in the last three months of 2014, when compared to the same period in 2013. During Google's earnings call, Chief Financial Officer Patrick Pichette talked about few reasons for the company's revenue slowdown and blamed the inability to meet the demand for the Google Nexus 6 smartphone as one of the reasons.

9to5google quotes Pichette on the earnings call addressing the issue, "While the Nexus 6 was well received as a new phone, we had real issues and were unable to secure sufficient inventory to meet the demand that we had forecast."

Further adding more Pichette noted that production problems also hurt Google's ability to meet demand for Nexus 6 smartphones.

Talking about more issues that affected the company's revenue, Pichette added, "Google results were dented by a strong dollar, reducing the value of income earned outside the United States."

Unfortunately, Pichette did not talk about how the company will improve the availability of the Nexus 6 globally.

To refresh, Google launched the Motorola-made Nexus 6 in October last year while the handset reached Indian shores last month. The Google Nexus 6 32GB variant went on sale in India at Rs. 43,999, and the 64GB variant at Rs. 48,999. At the launch Motorola had confirmed that the Nexus 6 will be available in 28 countries (including India) across Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America. The Nexus 6 handset however has been a tough device to buy for consumers. In India, Google Play started off sales of the Nexus 6 much after partner Flipkart, and both outlets suffered from availability issues. Currently, the Nexus 6 32GB is listed as "out of stock" on Google Play India while the 64GB version is still listed as 'coming soon' - Flipkart lists both variants as available however.

The Nexus 6 is also the platform lead device of the most recent version of Android i.e., Android 5.0 Lollipop, which comes with a fresh look thanks to Material Design and a host of new features.

In other news, a data-tracking firm recently revealed that Google Play in terms of monetisation or revenue generation was far behind than Apple's App Store. It also added that the Google Play outpaced Apple's App Store in app download numbers.
