Data released on Wednesday have started the debate about whether Apple's new 'bigger than bigger' iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones have cannibalised the usage of iPad tablets.

The popular read-it-later app, Pocket, has revealed some interesting bits from the data it gleaned from users. It claims that iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users are spending less time reading on their iPad tablets than previous generation iPhone users. For those unaware, the Pocket app allows users to save an article or webpage to read later.

The data includes analysis of over 2 million articles and videos, with which the company claims it has "compared before-and-after behaviour for users who upgraded from an iPhone 5 or iPhone 5s to an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus."

One of the most significant bits from the data suggests that users who upgraded to iPhone 6 now view content on their handset 72 percent of the time "up from 55 percent when on a smaller screen". While those who upgraded to iPhone 6 Plus now view content on their device 80 percent of the time.

The Pocket data notes, "We saw that users with both an iPhone and an iPad consumed significantly more content as soon as they upgraded to an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus. Those with the 6 now open 33 percent more articles and videos inside Pocket than they did with an iPhone 5 or iPhone 5S, and those with the 6 Plus open 65 percent more items than they did with a smaller phone." The Pocket data also posted a 'Phone Vs Tablet' consumption chart showing the same data.

Comparing the overall time spent by users who upgraded to an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus and also own an iPad to view content from the app, the Pocket adds, "Users with an iPhone 6 now read on their tablets 19 percent less during the week and 27 percent less over the weekend. Those with a 6 Plus are on their tablets 31 percent less during the week and 36 percent less over the weekend."

The data however suggests that owners of iPhones do read content on their iPad tablets during night. It adds, "Regardless of which iPhone they have, users still reach for their iPads around 9PM for some late-night, bedtime reading."

Some of the other trends revealed by the Pocket's data suggest that iPhone 6 Plus owners view nearly 40 percent more video in Pocket, when compared to previous generation iPhones, and iPhone 6 owners view 16 percent more video in Pocket.
