Over the last three months, the numbers for the Android OS have shown pronounced trends. There is a steady rise when it comes to the latest version of the OS, KitKat, and a steady decline as far as the previous version, Jelly Bean, goes. The numbers for the 7-day period ending July 7 show that KitKat numbers have risen from June's 13.6 percent to 17.9 percent this month - an increase of 4.3 percent. The rise for Android KitKat was not as prominent as the one seen in the last three months. But, with more and more new devices running the new version of the OS, it is obvious that the numbers will rise even further.

On the Android Developers blog, if numbers are compared to the previous month, then the rise is visible more clearly. KitKat for instance gained 5.1 percent in May to rise from 8.5 percent to 13.6 percent in May. Coming to the current largest shareholder, Android Jelly Bean, the total share for all the versions (4.1, 4.2 and 4.3) stands at 56.5 percent. This is a 1.9 percent fall from June's 58.4 percent. To take individual breakups, Android Jelly Bean 4.3 fell from 10.3 percent to 9 percent - a fall of 1.3 percent. Android Jelly Bean 4.2 surprisingly gained 0.6 percent from last month's 19.1 percent to 19.7 percent. Android Jelly Bean 4.1 fell from last month's 29 percent to 27.8 percent - a fall of 1.2 percent.

The data was collected on a seven-day period ending July 7. This data reflects devices running the latest Google Play app, which is compatible with Android 2.2 and higher. Taking a look at the other versions of the Android platform, there were again similar trends that were seen. Android Ice Cream Sandwich (version 4.0.3 - version 4.0.4) fell 0.9 percent from last month's 12.3 percent to 11.4 percent this month. Android Gingerbread (version 2.3.3 - version 2.3.7) also fell 1.4 percent from 14.9 percent to 13.5 percent. Android version 2.2 Froyo fell from 0.8 percent to 0.7 percent this month.

Google also says that since the data is gathered from the new Google Play store, which supports Android Version 2.2 Froyo and above, older versions of the devices running the Android OS are not included. However in August 2013, devices running versions older than 2.2 accounted for 1 percent of devices checking-in to Google servers.

As far as the information about the OpenGL version is concerned, OpenGL 1.1 continued with its 0.1 percent share. OpenGL 2.0, even though comfortably in the lead, fell from 83.6 percent last month to 81.7 percent this month - a fall of 1.9 percent. On the other hand OpenGL version 3.0 rose steadily to 18.2 percent from last month's 16.3 percent - a rise of 1.9 percent.
