Nextbit, the company behind the cloud-based smartphone Robin, on Friday announced that it has received regulatory approval to sell smartphones in India. Alongside, it said shipments for smartphones pre-ordered from Kickstarter will begin from next week for India.

The company made the announcement in a tweet, in which it added that there is "no general sale yet", indicating no immediate plans to begin retail sales in India. To recall, the company had announced it would launch in India by April-end, and appears to have gotten delayed with its plans.

To recall, the Nextbit Robin went up for pre-orders in October, and countries to which it shipped included India. The handset, which starts at $399 (roughly Rs. 26,000), will cost you another $70 (roughly Rs. 4,600) to get it shipped to India. Shipments to several regions began in February.

To recall, the cloud-based Nextbit Robin's USP is that it automatically backs up (and deletes) photos and other data that hasn't been used recently every time the user connects to Wi-Fi. It also sports a fingerprint sensor.

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based Nextbit Robin sports a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display, and is powered by Qualcomm's hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor coupled with 3GB of RAM. It bears 32GB of inbuilt storage that can be supplemented with the 100GB of free cloud storage space.

The Robin sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with flash apart from a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It runs on a 2680mAh battery, and sports a USB Type-C charging port. The 4G-enabled smartphone features an unlocked bootloader, allowing users to easily use their custom Android ROMs if they so desire. The smartphone is available in two colour variants: Mint and Midnight.
