The recently introduced OnePlus One smartphone currently has limited availability, and can only be purchased by those who have received invites - however on Wednesday, the company revealed the general availability date.

The company, in a post on its forum, announced the OnePlus One will be given "increased general availability" by June, and added, "after our product announcement, we realized that far more people wanted the One than what we originally anticipated [...] People who want it should be able to get an invite without much trouble in June."

This global availability will follow the roll-out to invited customers of the 16GB Silk White smartphones in mid-May, and a 'larger batch' of 64GB Sandstone Black in early-June.

The company post also outlines the future manufacturing plans of the Android-based OnePlus One, where it noted it has increased the production of 64GB Sandstone Black version of the OnePlus One smartphone, saying it now knows "that people want the 64GB Sandstone Black far more than the 16GB Silk White [.]"

The OnePlus One smartphone was launched on April 23 with some staggering specifications at a rather low price, branding itself the '2014 Flagship Killer'.

The Chinese smartphone startup has announced that the OnePlus One will be available at a starting price of $299 (unlocked and without contract) for the 16GB model (roughly Rs. 18,300), while the 64GB variant will be available at $349 (roughly Rs. 21,350) - a clear blow at rivals who charge hefty sums for the addition of inexpensive Flash storage.

The One smartphone, when first announced, was given a Q2 launch with initial availability in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, the UK and the US.

Some key specifications of the OnePlus One are its 5.5-inch IPS LCD full-HD display, 3GB of RAM, a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC, 13-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front-facing camera, 4G LTE connectivity and 3100mAh battery.
