  • It is expected to be built on a new 7nm process
  • The new SoC will debut on the Galaxy S9 next year

Even though Qualcomm is currently busy making amends for its 'short supplied' Snapdragon 835 SoC that is delaying many smartphone launches, leaks on its future SoCs don't stop. Now, it appears the next flagship mobile processor is in the works, as Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC has reportedly been spotted on the company site alongside the yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 630 SoCs - both of which are rumoured to launch on Tuesday at an event in Beijing. Separately, a fresh report hints that the Snapdragon 845 processor is in the works, and will be built on a new faster, more efficient 7nm fabrication process. Furthermore, the new SoC will debut on the Galaxy S9 next year, the leak tips.

Spotted by Win Future on the company site in a listing that's since been removed, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 (SDM845) was listed alongside the Snapdragon 660 (SDM660) and Snapdragon 630 (SDM630). The report further adds that the Snapdragon 845 SoC will be unveiled this year, and will ship on devices early 2018.

Separately, IT Homes reports that work on the new 7nm process has been started by TSMC, and it is now in a trial production stage. This new process will reportedly make a smartphone much faster than before. The 7nm process can also be housed in a smaller frame, and will improve performance by up to 25 to 30 percent, when compared to the current 10nm process.

Huawei, Nvidia, and MediaTek will reportedly also introduce custom-made chips built on the new 7nm process.

There's little else known about the upcoming SoC, except for the new process it will be built on. In any case, the new SoC will be unveiled late this year, or early 2018. This year's Snapdragon 835 SoC first debuted on the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+, followed by the Xiaomi Mi 6 and Sony Xperia XZ Premium. It is expected to arrive on the OnePlus 5, HTC U 11, and the rumoured Nokia flagship as well.
