Samsung on Tuesday launched its Galaxy Note 8 smartphone in India but it seems like the company has some really big plans going forward. The company's mobile chief DJ Koh has said that the South Korean conglomerate is aiming to introduce a foldable smartphone in its Galaxy Note smartphone series by as early as 2018.

ZDNet reports that Samsung is targeting the launch of foldable smartphone from Galaxy Note series next year and is currently in the process of tackling the challenges associated with the implementation of a foldable screen on the handset. "We don't want to just sell a couple of the phones. We want it to be mass-ready and at a technological level where people will say it is a well-made phone," the report quoted DJ Koh as saying.

Despite being the most expensive smartphone released yet by the company, Koh revealed that the pre-orders for the Galaxy Note 8 were 2.5 times that of all pre-orders for the Galaxy Note 7 in South Korea.

As per a report by Reuters, Koh also said that the company is working with auto-systems maker Harman in order to develop an AI-equipped smart speaker that can be used to play music and perform other tasks. To recall, Samsung Display predicted that foldable smartphones may not be commercialised until 2019. While there was also a report from early this year that the company might introduce a foldable smartphone this year, it can be safely kept aside for now.
