The anticipated successor to the Galaxy Mega smartphones that were launched in 2013 is once again being featured in leaks. As with previous leaks, a single successor to the Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Galaxy Mega 6.3 is expected to be launched, called the Galaxy Mega 2.

The latest leak sees the purported specifications of the rumoured Galaxy Mega 2 being tipped by GSMArena. The reported specifications were noted from an image that features a specifications table, and images of the anticipated smartphone.

The purported specifications of the unannounced Galaxy Mega 2 include a 6-inch (720x1280 pixels) display; a quad-core 1.5GHz processor; 1.5GB of RAM; 16GB of built-in storage with microSD card expandability (up to 64GB); an 8-megapixel auto-focus camera with LED flash; a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera; a 2800mAh battery; 163.6x84.9x8.6mm dimensions; LTE Cat.4 connectivity with VoLTE support; FM radio and Android 4.4 KitKat.

Previously the unannounced smartphone was spotted along with images and specifications in the database of China's Telecommunications Equipment Certification Center (Tenaa). The certified smartphone, bearing model number SM-G7508Q for China, is expected to be released as the Galaxy Mega 2 for China Mobile with TDD-LTE support (1900/ 2300/ 2600MHz).

The SM-G7508Q, thought to be a China-variant of the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2, was listed with a 5.98-inch (720x1280 pixels) display on Tenaa, instead of the 5.9-inch previously rumoured by an alleged Galaxy Mega 2 GFXBench listing. The back of the alleged Galaxy Mega 2 seems to feature the same faux-leather back texture first introduced with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 in September last year.

Notably, an alleged Galaxy Mega 2 variant with model number SM-G750A was also spotted in FCC certification and Samsung's UA profile, last month.

Meanwhile, Samsung has already sent out invites for the launch of the much-anticipated successor to the Galaxy Note 3 at Unpacked 2014 Episode 2 event on September 3. In the meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has been listed with price and specifications at an Indonesian e-commerce site, but as it is a third-party retailer - all details mentioned will have to be taken with a pinch of salt.
