Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Now Receiving Firmware Update With Battery, Call Stability Fixes

Samsung's Galaxy Note 5 smartphone has started receiving an OTA firmware update that primarily brings improvements for call stability and battery life, apart from security policy updates.

The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop-based OTA update is currently rolling out to the Galaxy Note 5 users in Singapore and comes with build number LMY47X.N920IDVU2AOJ4. It is about 145MB in size. There is still no word as to when the update will be released for other markets including India.

The OTA update for the Galaxy Note 5 brings improved stability of call; battery usage optimisation, and other security enhancements. The update notification screenshot posted by an XDA Forum member shows that once updated; it won't allow users to downgrade due to changes in the security policy. Despite the Galaxy Note 5 being one of Samsung's top-of-the-line handsets, there is no official word on Android 6.0 Marshmallow update rollout for the handset - though it is reportedly part of the company's first wave of Marshmallow rollouts.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 reached Indian shores last month and was priced at Rs. 53,900 for the 32GB variant, and Rs. 59,900 for the 64GB variant. It was initially unveiled alongside Galaxy S6 Edge+ in August.

The Android 5.1 Lollipop-based Samsung Galaxy Note 5 features a 5.7-inch QHD (1440x2560 pixels) Super Amoled display with a pixel density of 515ppi, and is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Exynos 7420 SoC with four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2.1GHz, and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5GHz, apart from 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. The Galaxy Note 5 features a 16-megapixel rear camera with f/1.9 aperture and optical image stabilisation, apart from a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The camera app can be opened with a double press on the home button, which also bears the fingerprint sensor. A Live Broadcast feature is also being touted. The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 has no microSD card slot, and features a 3000mAh non-removable battery. The Galaxy Note 5 comes with a 4G LTE Cat. 6 modem and support for India's 4G LTE bands.
