Sony at MWC 2016 launched an all-new Xperia X range and introduced three new X series smartphones. The company later confirmed that there won't be any Sony Xperia Z smartphone launched this year, as the flagship lineup was being replaced by the Xperia X series. This by default also made the Sony Xperia X Performance the company's top-end smartphone so far this year.

Now, a new leak regarding Sony handsets says that the company may be planning to launch its first smartphone featuring High Dynamic Range (HDR) supported display. Phoneradar citing familiar with the matter reports that Sony's next X-series smartphone will actually be the successor to the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, and be called the Xperia X Premium.

To recall, Sony's Xperia Z5 Premium was the company's first smartphone featuring a 4K display with a resolution of 2160x3840 pixels and an impressive pixel density of 806ppi. It was launched in 2015 and is rumoured to get a refresh as Xperia X Premium.

The report adds that Sony Xperia X Premium will offer 1,000 nits of brightness which can go up to a maximum brightness of 1,300 nits. Further, it says that the smartphone will come with 1,024 colour shades of three primary colours - Blue, Green, and Red. Some of the other features said to be present in the Xperia X Premium include support for displaying 1.07 billion colours. For those unaware, almost all smartphones currently support the 16.8 million colour depth. The Xperia X Premium is also said to support 120Hz refresh rate and 2000:1 contrast ratio.
