All schools in Goa would be made Wi-Fi enabled within months, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the state assembly Thursday.

Parrikar was speaking during the question hour. The budget session of the Goa assembly is currently on.

"Most schools will have Wi-Fi within three to four months, so that when the students get their free notebook computers, they can be used to the fullest," Parrikar said.

The Goa government has already announced that notebook computers would be given free to Class V and VI students from the next academic year.

All the notebooks, Parrikar said, will be preloaded with interactive educational software and would cost below Rs.10,000.

"This is only an initial estimate. But all the computers will have an interactive educational software which will help students to understand lessons taught in class better," said Parrikar, who is also the state education minister.

Parrikar was the first chief minister in the country to distribute free computers to school students. He did it in his first stint at the helm of the state government in 2002.
