MapmyIndia has launched Connect, a device that enables users to mirror the screen of their smartphones or tablets, or stream media from the devices to a television or monitor screen.

The device is priced at Rs. 12,990, and is available for purchase on MapmyIndia's website.

The MapmyIndia Connect device is essentially a box that supports Miracast, Airplay and DLNA media streaming protocols, for mirroring and streaming content over Wi-Fi, in addition to supporting streaming of content through its own protocol via an Android app for devices that don't support any of these standards.

The device can be connected with a television or monitor through an AV cable (RCA cable) or via Micro-USB. The mobile phone or tablet and the Connect box need to be on the same Wi-Fi network, following which the device's screen can be mirrored if it supports Miracast or Airplay, or content can be streamed to the other screen (for Dlna capable devices or through the MapmyIndia Connect Android app).

The Connect box supports mirroring for Miracast equipped devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Google Nexus 4, Google Nexus 5, HTC One, HTC One+, HTC One Max, HTC One Dual SIM, HTC Mega, Sony Xperia Z, ZL, T and V, Blackberry Q10, Blackberry Z30 and LG G2.

It also supports mirroring for iPhone 4S and newer devices running iOS 5.0 or later through AirPlay.

If the phone or tablet doesn't support DLNA or Miracast protocols, then content can be streamed through the MapmyIndia Connect app that can be downloaded through the company's website(Android only).

"MapmyIndia Connect is a unique initiative and a first for us. We have always endeavoured to bring product and solutions that make the users more productive and keep them engaged on the go. MapmyIndia Connect is in sync with our vision of making the lives of Indians convenient and hassle-free. The smartphone and tablet can do much more but for the size of the screen. Now this will no more be a barrier," says Rakesh Verma, Managing Director, MapmyIndia.
