Facebook is testing a revamped version of its Events section on the Web with a new layout and a cleaner interface, a change that will be rolled-out globally in the coming weeks. It notably includes a brand new suggested events feature called 'Events For You', which finds shares events recommendations based on information the user has shared with Facebook.

The redesigned Events section, complete with Events For You, will make its way to the Android and iOS apps later this year, confirmed a Facebook spokesperson to TechCrunch.

Facebook's re-crafted Events page now features a tabbed interface that lets users jump quickly through the their events, categorised under All, Invites, Saved and Hosting sections instead of compiling everything under one widget. It features Birthdays This Week on the right, with the new Events For You widget below that. On clicking See More, users will be taken to a dedicated Events for You page with more suggestions.

The Events For You suggestions are based on data like a user's liked pages, checked-in places and the apps used on Facebook. "The recommendations you see are based on the information you have shared with Facebook (i.e., Pages you like, groups and communities you're a part of, events that friends are attending), and other relevant contextual information such as day of the week and location," stated the Facebook spokesperson.

It is being speculated that Facebook Events or even Groups, like Messenger, might also come as a standalone app in future as CEO Mark Zuckerberg had back in January during the company's fourth quarter earnings call said, "You should also expect us to start building a few of these other things that we will focus on over time and develop into meaningful things like Messenger and Instagram are today."

Zuckerberg had noted there was room for "a lot" of different utilities in the future, and offered Facebook Groups as one possibility. "We now have more than half a billion people using groups every month," he'd said, adding, "It was sort of seen as a feature of the Facebook app rather than its own product."

Facebook on Thursday also launched its dedicated Messenger app for iPad devices.
