Indian businessman and former Member of Parliament Vijay Mallya appears to have been targeted in a high-profile hack on Twitter. The hackers seem to go by the name Legion, and not much else is known at this time. The businessman has several cases against him currently, and allegedly fled to the UK recently to escape legal action against him.

The @TheVijayMallya Twitter account posted two tweets roughly eight hours ago at the time of writing this copy, claiming that a hacking outfit named Legion had gained access to Mallya's email and Twitter accounts, adding that he was being blackmailed.

The tweets seemed to show Mallya was unfazed by these attempts, asking followers to ignore the Twitter hack and saying he would fix the issue of Legion posting in his name. He also said that blackmail attempts were a joke. No tweets on his timeline before this point showed any evidence of hacking, however, they might have been deleted.

Currently, @TheVijayMallya Twitter timeline is full of tweets that appear to be from Legion, featuring links to Web archives claimed to include details of Vijay Mallya's "bank accounts, assets, passports, and offshore investments." Legion in further tweets tells Mallya not to "f**k" with them, and that thus far they had only posted a partial dump of his details. More data was promised to be released over the coming days.

Further tweets sport Mallya's alleged personal phone number and addresses. Legion also claims that they did not blackmail Mallya, and that his original tweet with this allegation was just "propaganda". Legion goes on to ask for people to support their cause, and email them at legion_group@sigaint.org for more info on people like Mallya.

A group going by the same name recently hacked the Twitter handle of Indian National Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, as well as the handle of the Indian National Congress.
