Amazon on Tuesday introduced Page Flip, a feature that's designed to tackle a long-standing issue with reading e-books, that is, flipping pages for reference and coming back to where you were.

With the new Amazon Page Flip feature, users can zoom out of the book and look for something specific from a bird's eye view. The company says users will easily be able to recognise specific pages at a glance, as charts, pictures, bookmarks, and the user's own highlights are readily visible in the "pixel-accurate thumbnails."

The page users were reading is automatically pinned at the edge of your screen, so that users can quickly jump back to continue reading.

The new Amazon Page Flip feature will arrive in an over-the-air update for Kindle E-readers, Fire tablets, and the Kindle app for Android and iOS.

"Page Flip makes it easier than ever to refer back to pictures in a political memoir, flip back and forth between a map and your current page in an epic fantasy series, or find passages you've highlighted in an investing guide," Kindle's Vice President Chuck Moore was quoted as saying in the release.

The company has taken inspiration from how people read print books and tried to improve upon it, he said.

Earlier this month, Amazon launched an upgraded version its entry-level Kindle E-reader - priced at Rs. 5,999. The ebook reader went up for pre-orders in India last week, and will start shipping from July 7.
