Panasonic launches Windows 8 and Android tablets under Toughbook range of rugged devices

Panasonic India has launched four new rugged mobile computing devices including a Windows 8 tablet, Android tablet, and two handheld computers, for the Indian enterprise market.

Panasonic launched the Toughpad FZ-G1, which the company touts as the world's first Windows 8 enterprise-grade rugged tablet. The tablet has a 10.1-inch screen with a 1920x1200 pixels resolution, that offers support for 10-finger multitouch. It's powered by an Intel Core i5 processor of clock speed up to 2.9GHz. It's water and dust resistant and drop shock resistant up to 120cm. The Toughpad FZ-G1 is priced at Rs. 1,75,000 (excluding taxes).

Pansonic also launched the Toughpad JT-B1, a fully rugged Android tablet that has a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1024x600 pixels. It's powered by a 1.5GHz Texas Instruments OMAP4460 processor and runs Android 4.0. The tablet is 150cm shock resistant, and water and dust resistant. It also comes with an anti-glare film on its screen.  The Toughpad JT-B1 has been priced at Rs. 69,000 (excluding taxes).
 
In addition to the tablets, Panasonic launched JT-H300 and JT-H320HT rugged handheld computers that are based on Panasonic's "TSA (Total Shock Absorbing) design." The devices run Windows CE and are ideal for logistics and retail industry. The JT-H300 handheld computer is priced at Rs. 60,000 (excluding taxes) and JT-H320HT costs Rs. 40,000 (excluding taxes).

The company intends to address different industry segments including automotive,aviation, telecom, utility, retail, manufacturing, and logistics, among others with these devices.

Speaking on the launch Hide Harada, Director of IT Products Business Division, Panasonic Corporation, said, "Tablets and handheld computing devices are going to be significant drivers of enterprise mobility globally. With our engineering reputation for reliability and durability, Panasonic is well-positioned to meet this increasing business need and we aim to achieve 50 percent market share in the ruggedized tablet space by 2015."
