  • The HD 660 S have low impedance at 150 Ohm
  • The new headphones feature tight tolerance of +/- 1dB

Sennheiser has unveiled a successor to very popular HD 650 headphones that were launched back in 2006. Called the Sennheiser HD 660 S, the new headphones sport an all-new matte black and anthracite build along with an entirely fresh transducer design to deliver an improved audio experience, the company said. The headphones are available in the US and UK with a price tag of $499 (approximately Rs. 32,450).

Design-wise, the Sennheiser HD 660 S are quite identical to the HD 650s - whether you look at the open-back design or the side-adjustable headband. But what makes the new launch a superior offering in the portfolio is the advanced transducer design that has been made with precision stainless steel fabric and includes light-weight aluminium voice coils with top-notch impulse fidelity, as per Sennheiser.

The company claims that the Sennheiser HD 660 S headphones have a tight tolerance of +/- 1dB, which helps in balancing the audio from both the drivers. Additionally, there is a low impedance at 150 Ohm, significantly down from the 300 Ohm of the HD 650, to deliver an enhanced audio experience without requiring an external amplification technology.

Sennheiser has provided a detachable cable with the HD 660 S that is made of super-conductive oxygen-free copper. This helps to reduce noise and enhance audio output. The cable has a 4.4mm stereo plug and a quarter-inch to 3.5mm adapter to support most of the available mobile devices and portable music players. Users with the new iPhones or smartphones like the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL would require an additional adapter, though.

At last, the earcups of the Sennheiser HD 660 S come in an elliptical shape. The replaceable earcups are touted to provide "hours and hours of listening in supreme comfort". Besides, there is thick padding on the headband to complete the comfortable music playback experience.
