  • The app now has a new logo
  • The update will roll out in phases

Google Cast app users started getting notifications earlier this month saying that the app will be re-branded in the following weeks. Now, the transition is complete and the search giant seems to have completely revamped its casting app with the new name - Google Home - and a new design. While the updated app is now rolling out for Android, the iOS app is yet to be re-branded from Google Cast.

This is the second occasion that the app has been re-branded by Google. It was earlier named Chromecast app, before being named Google Cast app by the company. However, the changes to the app don't end at just the name. The Google Home app has a redesigned user interface with introduction of new tabs and removal of old ones.

Instead of the three tabs 'What's On', 'Devices', and 'Get Apps' that were earlier present, the revamped app has just two tabs namely 'Watch' and 'Discover'. The search bar has now been removed but users can perform search using the 'search icon' at the bottom right of the screen.

The most noticeable change coming with the Google Home update is to the icon, which now looks like a home and has all the primary Google colours in it.

It is not a coincidence that the app's name now bears resemblance to the company's Google Home speaker, which is competitor to Amazon's Echo, as Google is aiming to create a single hub for all Chromecast devices. Notably, Apple also brought its HomeKit-enabled services under single app recently, called Apple Holme.

As with every major update, the updated Google Home app is expected to reach users in phases. The India app store is still showing the Google Cast app. Those impatient for the updated app can download and sideload it via APK Mirror.
