Most TVs sold in India today are slim enough to sit flat against a wall, and that design leaves very little space inside for speakers. Thin TV frames leave almost no internal room for speaker drivers or bass chambers, which is why dialogue often gets buried under the background score and action scenes sound smaller than they should. A soundbar is the simplest fix, and the festive season, with family movie nights and long weekends of streaming, is when many households finally get around to buying one.

The harder part is choosing between them. Soundbar boxes are covered in channel numbers and Dolby logos, and two models at similar prices can offer very different setups. boAt's Aavante range covers four distinct points, from the Aavante Prime 5000D and Aavante Bar Prime Thunder-D at the entry level to the Dolby Atmos-equipped Aavante Bar Prime DA600 and the wireless Aavante Prime X at the top. Knowing a few terms first makes the choice much easier.

Reading the Numbers on the Box

The channel count tells you how many speakers are doing the work. In a 5.1 setup, the first number counts the main channels (left, centre, right and two rear speakers) and the second counts the subwoofer. A 5.2 system adds a second subwoofer, which spreads the bass more evenly across the room. A third number, as in 7.1.4, refers to height channels, which come from drivers that fire upward so sound can reach the listener from above.

The Dolby label matters just as much. Dolby Audio covers Dolby's established surround formats such as Dolby Digital, which is widely used for movies and shows on streaming apps and set-top boxes. Dolby Atmos goes further by placing sounds around and above the listener, so a helicopter can pass overhead instead of only moving from left to right. For Atmos to work, the content has to be mastered in the format and the TV has to pass it on to the soundbar, and an HDMI eARC connection is the most reliable way to do that.

boAt Aavante Prime 5000D, a Complete 5.1 System to Start With

Artboard 6 5000

The Prime 5000D is the most direct route to real surround sound in this lineup. It pairs the main bar with a wired subwoofer and two wired rear speakers, so sound comes from behind the seats as well as in front of them, and it supports Dolby Audio to spread that sound across all five channels. boAt rates the output at 500W RMS.

Connectivity is broad for a system at this level. There's HDMI eARC for a single-cable link to the TV, along with optical, AUX and USB ports, and Bluetooth v5.3 for streaming from a phone. Three EQ modes, Movie, Music and News, adjust the sound to what's on screen, and a master remote handles volume, EQ and playback from the couch. The bar can sit in a TV cabinet or be mounted on the wall to save space.

boAt Aavante Bar Prime Thunder-D, Double the Bass for Mid-Sized Rooms with Equicore

The Thunder-D keeps Dolby Audio but moves to a 5.2-channel layout with two wired subwoofers, each using a 5.25-inch driver. The bar itself has four 2-inch drivers, and two wired rear satellites with 1.5-inch drivers complete the surround setup. The system features Equicore technology, with drivers engineered to deliver balanced clarity across highs, mids and lows while retaining deep, controlled bass. Output is rated at 600W, and boAt positions it for standard living rooms and bedroom setups, where two subwoofers can fill the space more evenly than one.

It connects through HDMI ARC, optical, USB, AUX and Bluetooth v5.3, and comes with the same Movie, Music and News EQ modes and full-function master remote as the rest of the range. The Thunder-D is available at offline retail stores, including select Equicore listening experiences where consumers can hear the product before buying.

boAt Aavante Bar Prime DA600, Dolby Atmos With a Dedicated Centre

The DA600 is where the lineup moves to Dolby Atmos. It keeps the 5.2-channel layout with dual wired subwoofers and dual wired rear satellites, and raises the output to 600W. The subwoofers use two 5.25-inch drivers in a wooden, side-firing enclosure, while the bar has front-facing drivers for the left, right and centre channels. The centre channel carries most of the dialogue in films and shows, which helps keep voices distinct from the soundtrack. boAt recommends the DA600 for large living rooms, as it has the most power headroom in the Bar Prime series.

It connects over HDMI eARC, which lets it receive Atmos audio from a compatible TV, along with optical, USB, AUX and Bluetooth v5.3. Movie, Music and News EQ modes and a master remote are included here too.

boAt Aavante Prime X, the Flagship With Detachable Wireless Speakers

Artboard 9 prime

The Prime X is boAt's first truly wireless soundbar, and its rear satellites are the reason. They detach from the main bar, pair with it automatically, and recharge either by docking back onto the soundbar or through a USB-C cable. That means they can sit behind the sofa without cables crossing the floor. boAt rates the battery at up to 12 hours at 60% volume with Dolby Atmos content and up to 7 hours with non-Atmos content, both when connected over HDMI.

It's also the only 7.1.4 system in this lineup. Up-firing drivers add height to the sound, and a wireless subwoofer handles the bass. Total output is 700W. It connects over Bluetooth v5.3, HDMI eARC, optical, AUX and USB, and offers four EQ modes covering Movie, Music, Sports and News. A QR code on the product links to its installation guide.

Sony HT-S40R, a 5.1 System With Wireless Rear Speakers

Sony's HT-S40R combines a three-channel soundbar with a subwoofer and rear speakers for 600W of total output, with Dolby Digital, Bluetooth and USB playback, and HDMI ARC. The rear speakers are powered through a wireless amplifier, so no cable has to run between the front and back of the room. Owners of compatible Sony BRAVIA TVs can also send audio to the system wirelessly.

JBL Bar 500 Pro, Dolby Atmos Without Rear Speakers

The JBL Bar 500 Pro takes a different approach to surround sound. Rather than using separate rear speakers, it relies on JBL's MultiBeam technology to spread sound across the room from the bar itself, and it pairs this with a 10-inch wireless subwoofer for 590W of total output. Built-in Wi-Fi adds AirPlay, Chromecast built-in and Alexa Multi-Room Music, and it supports Dolby Atmos, HDMI eARC with 4K Dolby Vision passthrough, and PureVoice dialogue enhancement.

Which Soundbar Is Right for Me?

Each of the four boAt soundbars solves a slightly different problem, and the right one depends on the size of the room and how much of it you want the sound to fill. The Prime 5000D suits buyers setting up their first surround system who want rear speakers and Dolby Audio in one package. The Thunder-D is for those who want more bass in a medium-sized room, with two subwoofers sharing the work. The DA600 is the step up for larger living rooms and for anyone who watches a lot of Atmos content on streaming platforms, with a dedicated centre channel for dialogue. The Prime X is for buyers who want a full 7.1.4 Atmos setup without cables running across the room, and who like being able to move the rear speakers when the furniture shifts for guests.

A soundbar used to be a way to make the TV louder. With surround channels, Dolby formats and wireless speakers now spread across four price points, boAt's lineup lets buyers choose based on their room instead of settling for whatever fits the budget.
