Sony A99 II Full-Frame SLT Camera With 42.4-Megapixel Sensor Announced

Sony’s new A99 II is a beast of a full-frame camera that’s based on Sony’s A-mount platform. The new model boasts of a 42.4-megapixel sensor, 5-axis image stabilisation, 4K video recording and arrives in November at $3,200 (approximately Rs. 2,14,500).

Thanks to feedback from professionals, the Sony A99 II is eight percent smaller than its predecessor and features improved grip, magnesium alloy body, dual SD card slots and dust and moisture resistance.

The brains behind the beast though is the new 42.4-megapixel BSI full-frame CMOS sensor with, what Sony refers to as a ‘gapless-on-chip’ design, which promises better low-light performance even at high ISO values. The optical low-pass filter has also been ditched on the Sony A99 II in order to avoid losing finer details and textures in images.


This also happens to be Sony’s first full-frame camera to sport the 4D Focus system which features 79 autofocus points on the dedicated PDAF sensor, which when combined with the 399 on-sensor autofocus points, gives you 79 hybrid cross-autofocus points. The Bionz X image processor on board the Sony A99 II enables continuous shooting up to 12fps. Also making its debut for A-mount cameras is the new in-body 5-axis image stabilisation system.

The Sony A99 II can record 4K video, supports S-Log2 and S-Log3 shooting modes, an OLED EVF and a 3-inch tiltable LCD display.
