Budget smartphones aren’t exactly high on value in 2026 thanks to the ongoing memory crisis. With price tags of memory creeping higher, manufacturers have their hands tied in terms of upgrades and focus more on the experience. Realme has gone a step further and managed to deliver a massive silicon-carbon battery in a budget device. We take a closer look.
More Realme P4R 5G NewsAdvancements in smartphone chipsets and battery tech mean that most consumers don't really need mega, high-capacity batteries in their smartphones today. However, the memory crisis is forcing manufacturers to use cheaper (or older) hardware components in new smartphones. Older hardware like 6nm processors isn't energy efficient by any means. And so comes the requirement for a bigger battery to power said hardware at current-day levels of efficiency. However, the switch to newer silicon-carbon battery technology does let brands offer added value after meeting base expectations of budget smartphone users.
The Realme P4R has a frame and rear panel made from polycarbonate. The phone does not feel premium but manages an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance. It has a basic IPS LCD panel that gets sufficiently bright outdoors but shows a reddish tint. Streaming content is a bit limited as the phone only supports SD quality playback in OTT apps.
Software operation is smooth and mostly lag-free. There’s plenty of customisation options and AI tools to play around with. Software support is a bit limited at 2 years.
In terms of performance, the phone is good enough for basic software operation and usage. However it isn’t advisable to push it to its limits. What we did not like are the numerous preinstalled apps and tons of spammy notifications from native apps.
Camera performance is passable with decent daylight imaging from the single rear camera. Low-light performance isn’t up to the mark and barely meets expectations. The same can be said about video recordings.
Battery life is where the Realme P4R excels, offering a good two days of use even with heavy usage. Charging speeds are not fast because of the slow charger and the higher-than-usual battery capacity.
