The brand new Yu Yutopia is being touted as "the most powerful phone on the planet", which is a bold claim from a company's debut entry into the big leagues. Yu Televentures CEO Rahul Sharma seems mighty confident though since the company's marketing department had no qualms about taking digs at Apple and Samsung in the teasers that led up to the phones' debut last week.
The Yu Yutopia is an amalgamation of some of the best smartphone components out there, all crammed into a single product. The build and finish of the metal body is very good and gives it a premium feel. The QHD display is sharp and produces crisp text and images. The phone also has powerful internals which can handle any task thrown at it. All of this comes together thanks to Cyanogen OS, which offers excellent customisations and software tweaks. The Around Yu service from Yu helps gives the phone added value. However, being an all-metal phone, heating issues are present. The 21-megapixel camera, while good at daylight shooting, falls a bit short when the light is less than ideal. Battery life is also something we expected more out of. And finally the fingerprint sensor doesn’t always work on the first attempt. The Yutopia a good first attempt at a flagship but it’s still rough around the edges.
