IO Interactive revealed 007 First Light, its upcoming action-adventure title that reimagines the origin story of James Bond, at PlayStation State of Play Wednesday. The studio debuted the first trailer for the game, featuring a mix of gameplay, cutscenes and in-engine footage, showcasing Bond staples — exotic locations, thrilling car chases and frenetic shoutouts. 007 First Light is coming to PC and consoles in 2026 and is currently available to wishlist across all supported platforms.
Sony held its State of Play broadcast on June 4 (early hours of June 5 in India), bringing trailers and updates on a host of games headed to PS5. The event also featured IO Interactive's James Bond game, with a three-minute-long announcement trailer sharing details about the studio's take on the iconic MI6 agent.
007 First Light is a standalone reimagining of James Bond's origin story, with a young, 26-year-old Bond who must earn his ‘00' status. He starts as a brash Royal Navy air crewman in the game before reckless bravery lands him on MI6's training program, where he eventually works his way to ‘00' status.
“For the first time ever, fans will be able to experience Bond's ascent at MI6 from a young 26-year-old recruit into a full-fledged spy – immersing them in the exotic and dangerous world of espionage captured in the films,” IO Interactive said in its announcement.
“Bond's adventures will take players all around the globe, coming face to face with allies and foes (or in some cases, both), while choosing how they overcome obstacles and challenges, whether it be with brute force, cunning guile, or charming wit.”
Bond will be accompanied by familiar characters from the franchise, including allies like M, Q and Moneypenny.
007 First Light is a third-person action-adventure game, built in IO Interactive's proprietary Glacier engine, featuring a mix of combat, driving, stealth, and gadgets gameplay — glimpses of all were shown in the trailer.
“We're pouring our energy and passion for the franchise into creating a cinematic adventure that pushes the boundaries of what a James Bond game can be, while telling a fresh, new story. We can't wait for players and fans to discover an experience tailor-made for them,” IO Interative CEO Hasan Abrak said.
007 First Light will launch on PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store) PS5, Xbox Series S/X and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. The game will also be enhanced for PS5 Pro using Sony's PSSR technology and will be playable at 60 fps in Quality Mode on the console. It is currently available to wishlist on all supported platforms.
